Elephant poachers in Tanzania shot and killed a British helicopter pilot Roger Gower who had been tracking poachers at the Maswa Game Reserve.
The conservation charity for which the pilot was working for, the Friedkin Conservation Fund said the poachers shot at the pilot’s helicopter as he flew near the carcass of one of three elephants killed by poachers.

In the words of Charity founder Dan Friedkin, the organisation he said had lost “a dear friend”.

Reports say the British Foreign Office has confirmed the death of the UK national in Tanzania and said it was providing assistance to the family of the late pilot.

Recounting the incident, Pratik Patel, of the Friedkin Conservation Fund, said Mr Gower had been approaching the last of three elephants killed by poachers when he was shot.
Patel also paid tribute to “a great guy, a great friend, a great pilot” who he said had loved working with Tanzania’s wildlife.
