British PM backs airstrikes against ISIS in Syria

Published

on

The British Prime Minister, David Cameron, has thrown his weight behind the global coalition in the fight against ISIS, declaring that air strikes against Islamic State militants in Syria would be in the UK’s “national interest”.

Making the case for military action in the Commons, David Cameron was also quick to allay growing fears by denying claims that such a stand would make the UK a bigger target for terror attacks.

He told MPs the UK was already a target for IS – and the only way to deal with that was to “take action” now.

The UK could not “outsource our security to allies” and it had to stand by France, he added.

He urged MP’s to back military action as he sets out a “comprehensive strategy” to tackle IS.

A vote by the House of Commons is expected within a week and the outcome of the votes will determine whether to authorise airstrikes.
