Buhari, not me, is guilty of flouting court orders – Nnamdi Kanu

Nnamdi Kanu petitions UN, US, Israel over army invasion, killings in South East

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has debunked claims that he has been in breach of his bail conditions and argued that responding to questions directed at him by newsmen does not amount to ‘granting interviews’ — something he was prohibited from doing.

He said that President Muhammadu Buhari and the Department of State Security (DSS), and not him , should be accused of flouting court orders.

Kanu made this clarification when some journalists accosted him at an event in Enugu State on Monday, where he received awards from some pan-Igbo groups. Among the groups which gave him awards were, Igbo Women Assembly, the Igbo Students Union and the Eastern Consultative Assembly.

There have been claims that Kanu has been violating his bail conditions as granted by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Nyako had, among other conditions, ordered that Kanu must not grant interviews or be seen in gatherings of more than 10 persons.

But asked if he had not been in breach of these conditions, Kanu said, “I am replying you (journalists). That is what I am doing. I am not giving an interview, I am responding to the question you asked me.

“The judge is a very learned fellow. She cannot stop me from speaking.”

He further said, “Buhari and the DSS have been in multiple breaches of court order after court order. I wish you can go to the DSS and ask Daura, what is his name? Lawal, whatever his name is, the DSS Director General, why DSS does not obey court orders.

“They are the ones flouting the court orders. It’s not me. What I am doing is entirely legal. You ask me a question and I respond to you because if I keep quiet you see me as a very arrogant fellow.”

Meanwhile, reports claim that there was a total shutdown of markets and banks including the government house, following the visit of Kanu to Ebonyi State on Monday, as people trooped out to welcome him.

Kanu is currently being prosecuted by the Federal Government alongside three other IPOB members on charges of treason.
