Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has been described as a mere figurehead that is neither in control of Nigeria nor anything going on in the country.

This description was made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who insisted that happenings in the governance of the country is a clear prove that power was not handed to Acting President Osinbajo as Nigerians are meant to believe.

The PDP suggested that the claim that ailing President Muhammadu Buhari transferred power to Osinbajo before leaving Nigeria for London on a medical trip 99 days ago was a charade.

The party spokesman, Dayo Adeyeye, stated this when he spoke with newsmen on Sunday in Abuja. He argued that Osinbajo would have assigned portfolios to the two ministers that were sworn in more than two weeks ago, if he was truly in charge of the governance of the country.

“The Acting President is not in charge of the country. He is not in charge of anything. This is why nothing is moving forward. How do you explain a situation where two of the ministers who were sworn in after much pressure from the people and the National Assembly have not been assigned portfolios?

“He is not in charge. He is a mere figurehead and cannot do anything. The cabals are still in charge. That is why nothing is moving forward in this country. The two ministers are just idle. They have no offices, nowhere to resume to and nothing to do. What is the essence of their being sworn in then? They are ministers without portfolios,” he said.

Adeyeye, who was a former minister of state for works further said, “It is a constitutional breach on the side of the government because each state ought to have a minister each. Now, these two states had been without ministers for long and after you reluctantly appointed them, you refused to give them offices.”

Recall that the letter to the Senate announcing President Buhari’s return to London for a follow-up treatment had referred to Osinbajo as the ‘Coordinator’ of the nation’s affairs while Buhari is away.

The controversies such nomenclature generated was however put to rest by the National Assembly which clarified the matter.
