Couple, 5 siblings burnt to death in auto crash

An accident which happened along the Gbongan-Ibadan Road in Osun State claimed the lives of a couple and five others when the bus they were travelling in burst into flames.

According to reports, the accident involved a Toyota Sienna and an 18-seater Mazda passenger bus which was speeding when the tyre burst making it hard for the driver to control the vehicle.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the speeding Mazda bus caught fire when it collided with the Toyota Sienna burning seven persons including the couple and five siblings to death.

Reports also revealed that no fewer than 11 passengers were also said to have suffered injuries in the crash.

Recounting the incident, an eyewitness identified only as Femi said the accident was caused by the driver of the Mazda bus who was driving at top speed when he lost control of his vehicle.

“The accident was caused by the driver of the Mazda bus because he lost control of the bus when the front tyre burst. He collided with a Toyota Sienna that was coming towards Osogbo.” Femi said.

Continuing, he added that; “The driver of the Sienna and his wife died on the spot, while five passengers in the bus were burnt beyond recognition. Two children of the same parent were also said to be among those burnt to death in the bus.

“We could not help them immediately because of the fire. It was a gory sight.”

While confirming the incident, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Osun State Command, Mr. Umar Ibrahim, informed that those injured in the accident have been taken to hospital for treatment while also appealing to motorists to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on any journey.
