Court proceedings against Palestinian teen activists who slapped Israeli soldier begins Feb 12

Ahed Tamini, the Palestinian teen activist who was caught in a viral video with other women assaulting an Israeli soldier will appear in court on February 12.

Tamimi who remains in custody along with her mother, Nariman, faces 12 charges, including aggravated assault and throwing stones, while her mother faces five charges, including incitement for uploading the video on social media.

However, Ahed’s lawyer revealed that the charges against Ahed and her mother also includes older incidents not related to the viral vidoe shared on social media.

Meanwhile, Ahed’s cousin Nour Tamimi, 20, who was also seen in the video and charged with assaulting the Israeli soldier after the release of a viral video has been released on bail.

In a related development, authorities in Singapore days ago banned a film focused on the arrest Ahed Tamimi who has been charged with 12 counts over the slapping incident which took place during a protest in the occupied West Bank region.

Reports say Singapore banned a film festival from screening a documentary this week that features Ahed who has now emerged as the symbol of resistance to Israeli military occupation in the West Bank.

Justifying the ban, authorities in the Southeast Asian city state said the film “Radiance of Resistance” was “skewed” and potentially divisive for Singapore’s multi-ethnic population.
