Court stops swearing-in of Gov Okorocha’s new deputy

A High Court in Owerri, the Imo State capital, has ordered that the new deputy governor of the state, Mr. Calistus Ekenze, should not be sworn in.

Governor Rochas Okorocha had soon after the former deputy governor, Eze Madumere, was impeached by the state House of Assembly, announced Ekenze as his deputy.

Madumere’s impeachment came despite an earlier court ruling on Tuesday ordering that the House should suspend action on his dismissal from office.

However, the court ruling on Tuesday morning ruled against the swearing in of Ekenze, who was only minutes away to be sworn in as the new Imo deputy governor.

The news was made know to the invitees who had already gathered for the ceremony by the Attorney-General of the state, Miletus Nlemadim.
