Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday, said the compulsory use of face masks by residents takes effect from Monday as part of measures to check the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

The governor, who announced this at a press briefing on the COVID-19 situation in the state held at the State House, Marina, also announced the release of 209 prisoners from various prisons across the state.

He said the move is aimed at decongesting the prisons following the ravaging deadly COVID-19 pandemic, adding that the freed prisoners included the aged, physically challenged and those with minor offences, among other considerations.
