DAPCHI: We are not terrorists, Boko Haram tells residents

The Boko Haram Islamic sect on Wednesday morning told residents of the Dapchi Community, Yobe State, that they were not terrorists, as being branded.

The members of the sect stated this when they returned the schoolgirls who had been kidnapped from the Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi, some weeks ago.

Residents of the community told Ripples Nigeria on the phone, that the sect members stormed the town in the early hours of Wednesday, same way they did on the day the girls were kidnapped.

They told residents who scampered into the bushes out of fear on sighting them to return, that they were not there to hurt them.

“We ran away for fear of the unknown when we sighted the Islamic inscriptions on their trucks. But they called us to come back that they were not here to hurt us.

“They gathered us around and addressed us, saying they are not terrorist, and do not kill, after which they released the girls to us. Not a single shot was fired.

“They brought the girls in about nine trucks and told them to go and join their parents. Then they drove off”, one of the residents told Ripples Nigeria in phone.

Another resident who also confirmed the release of the girls, said they were all at the general hospital for a health check on the girls, to see if any of them needs care for any illness.

One resident said at least five of the girls had died, but could not give an exact figure.
