Data harvested by Cambridge Analytica more than 87m, stored in Russia, Whistleblower says

The data harvested by Cambridge Analytica is more than the 87 million quoted by Facebook and could be stored in Russia, whistleblower, Christopher Wylie says.

The ex-employee of Cambridge Analytica who was speaking with NBC’s Chuck Todd during a “Meet the Press” segment Sunday said; “Information was accessed by Cambridge Analytica could be higher, absolutely, than the 87 million users acknowledged by Facebook”.

Wylie added that his lawyer has been contacted by US authorities, including congressional investigators and the Department of Justice, and says he plans to cooperate with them.

He had earlier accused his former employers of mishandling the personal information of more than 50 million Facebook users in an effort to help Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.

Wylie, who helped found Cambridge Analytica and worked there until late 2014, told ABC News the company would use the information, including Facebook users’ hometowns, friends and “likes” to influence the behaviour of potential voters.

Cambridge Analytica claims to build psychological profiles based on personal details from millions of Americans that can categorize individual voters.

The company has surfaced on several occasions in probes of 2016 Russian election interference.
