In a move that is sure to elicit critical reactions from stakeholders and the Nigerian public and amidst growing apprehension within the ranks of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, has ordered the relocation of the appeal panel sitting on the Delta State Governorship Election Petition from Benin to Abuja.

A source at the Court of Appeal Headquarters in Abuja, who spoke under condition of anonymity with NAN, said the panel has been relocated, hinting that the decision will be officially confirmed to parties to the appeal when a date is finally fixed for the next sitting of the panel.

The source, who gave no reason for the relocation, said: “I can confirm to you that the panel will no longer sit in Benin, it has been moved to Abuja by the President.

“The court will officially communicate this decision to the parties when a date has been fixed for the next sitting of the panel,” the source said.

The Delta State governorship appeal panel had concluded hearing in the appeal brought before it by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor but reserved judgement to a date to be announced.

The APC candidate approached the Appeal Court, praying it to upturn the decision of the Delta State Governorship Election Tribunal that upheld the election of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
