DSS denies working against electoral process in Rivers

The Department of State Services, DSS, has denied allegations that it was working against the completion of the electoral process in Rivers State.

It would be recalled that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had alleged that the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state have concluded plans to use the DSS to originate a phantom security report that would be used in suspending the completion of the electoral process in the state indefinitely.

It would also be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission  INEC, suspended the collation of the March 23 governorship elections in the state over widespread violence. It has however fixed between April 2 and 5 for the collation and announcement of the results.

Reacting to the allegation in a statement on Friday in Abuja, the Public Relations Officer of the service, Peter Afunanya, said there was no truth in it.

According to him, the DSS is not under any instruction from any quarter to work against the process as alleged.

“As a professional agency, it will continue to adhere to the principles of justice and fairness,” he said.

Afunanya also added that the resolve of the service was in line with that of President Muhammadu Buhari on non-interference in the electoral process.

He also pledged that the DSS would partner with sister security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure a level playing ground for all the contestants.
