Eagles ready to curtail Algeria’s counter attack

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has declared that his players are ready to curtail the Algerians’ counter attacks when both teams battle on Saturday in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers billed for this weekend in Uyo.

Rohr added that Algerian coach Lekeens plans to rely more on counter attacks but he has a game plan that can ultimately stop them.

“We are aware of how they play, they like to have the possession of the ball but I don’t think they will want to do that here, they will rely more on counter attacks, they will like to hit us on the break because they have player that can do that.

“They have players with incredible pace but we have our plans on how to stop them,” he said.

The coach also spoke on the absence of goalkeeper Carl Ikeme due to injury.

“Ikeme has been terrific for this team but he is not here. There is no problem about that. Daniel Akpeyi did well when Ikeme was injured against Egypt and we are happy Daniel is here with us now. We have two goalkeepers who are doing well abroad and there is also Ezenwa who has been with this team for some time. Any of the three goalkeepers can do well when they play,” he said.
