EPL: Man City are the team to beat - Giggs

Former Manchester United star, Ryan Giggs has tipped city rivals, Manchester City as Premier League title favourites in the 2017-18 season.

Giggs, who enjoyed immense success at Old Trafford throughout his long career, believes City are the team to beat in the coming season pointing out the club’s heavy investment on full-backs.

With eleven days left before the start of the league, City, who finished third last season, have shown all readiness, having spent heavily this summer to bolster their squad.

Manager Pep Guardiola already acquired full-backs, Kyle Walker, Danilo and Benjamin Mendy; plus Bernardo Silva and goalkeeper Ederson also arriving at the Etihad.

“I think Manchester City are the team to beat,” Giggs told Sky Sports.

“I looked at them towards the end of last season and the forward players they’ve got is scary, with Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane, Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Raheem Sterling.

“What they needed to get right was their defence and it will be interesting to see how Ederson settles in, because you don’t win the Premier League with an average goalkeeper.

“They’ve obviously invested heavily on full-backs but the question is still whether Vincent Kompany can stay fit because his influence and experience are key for them.”

A promising City side showed great strenght in their US preseason tour, thrashing Europe champions Real Madrid, 4-1 and beating Premier League rivals Tottenham, 3-0.

They will open their Premier League campaign on August 12 away to newly promoted Brighton.
