Nigerians have called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to honour the fresh court order which granted the bail application of the co-convener of RevolutionNow Movement, Omoyele Sowore.

Ripples Nigeria had earlier reported that the Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu-led court had granted Sowore bail in the sum of N100 million, on Friday, and two sureties in like sum.

Justice Ojukwu ruled that the prosecution failed to show good reasons the defendants should not be granted bail since the offences are bailable. Sowore was, however, restricted from travelling outside Abuja.

This is coming few weeks after Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the same court had ordered the release of Sowore after a detention order he issued against him elapsed.

Displeased with the order, the secret police had re-arraigned him before Justice Ojukwu.

Reacting to the new court order in a tweet on Friday, Former presidential candidate, Oby Ezekwesili called on the DSS to comply with the order.

“Hopefully the DSS under the supervision of the Presidency will honor this Bail and release them.”

She also condemned the stringent bail conditions saying, “What kind of Bail of N150m is this? Is the idea to place a steep condition that @YeleSowore cannot meet?

“What a shame @NGRPresident. What a BIG shame to repress your citizen”.

Also, former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, described the Abuja court ruling as a welcome development.

“@YeleSowore bail, a welcome development; next is compliance,” he tweeted.

Sowore’s lawyer, Femi Falana had described the conditions of his client’s bail which also states that he (Sowore) parts with the sum of N100m, with two sureties in like sum, and bars him from travelling out of Abuja while the trial lasts, as severe.

According to Falana, Sowore and his co-defendant, were working under his counsel to meet the order by Justice Ojukwu to deposit the sum of N50m in the account of the court as security in order to be freed from detention.

Sowore has been in custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since August 3 when he was arrested in Lagos for calling for a revolution against the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

The former presidential candidate was arraigned on September 30, alongside Olawale Bakare, his co-defendant, on a 7-count charge of felony brought against him by the federal government.
