Fake cop knife’s tout to death

A motor park tout at Berger bus stop, Lagos State identified as Ahmed who is described as peaceful and jovial has been sent to his early grave by a suspected policeman who reportedly stabbed him to death with a knife.

According to reports, a friend of the deceased had stopped a 14-seater bus on its way from Ibadan, Oyo State, which had the suspected policeman as one of the passengers, demanding N100 from the driver.

But the driver declined to pay the money and in the ensuing argument, the man who was said to be putting on a riot police trouser and who was sitting in front, got down from the bus at the same time Ahmed arrived the scene to ascertain what was happening.

An eyewitness, Goke Adeleke said the passenger brought out a sharp knife and lodged it in the stomach of the victim.

“But the policeman suddenly brought out a very sharp knife and stabbed him (Ahmed) in the stomach. He held the policeman for a while and slumped. He stood up, staggered and slumped again.

“The policeman put on trousers usually worn by riot policemen,” the eyewitness said.

The victim was later taken to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre at the Ojota Tollgate, where he was confirmed dead on arrival and according to a friend of the deceased, men of the Rapid Response Squad came to the scene of the incident releasing tear gas canisters to rescue the killer cop.

“The RRS men shot into the air and also fired tear gas canisters to disperse us when we intercepted the policeman.

“They rescued and took him into the Armoured Personnel Carrier stationed in the area.” The friend of the deceased said.

Confirming the incident, SP Dolapo Badmos, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, however noted that the suspect was not a policeman as investigations into the matter were still ongoing.

“A group of social miscreants allegedly engaged one Sulaiman Anafi, a driver in charge of a Mazda commercial bus with number plate, XB 251 LEM, in a brawl at the Berger bus stop, inward Lagos, over parking ticket.

“In the process, one of the passengers in the bus reportedly stabbed one of the area boys in the area with a knife and he died on the way to a nearby hospital.

“The suspect has been arrested. He is not a policeman.” The PPRO said.
