Female gospel singer invited by ‘facebook pastor’ found dead in hotel

A female gospel singer, and mother of one, Yvonne Omoarebokhae, has been found dead in a hotel in Benin, Edo State capital.

She was reportedly lodged in the hotel with a Lagos based Pastor, Apostle Psalm Okpe of the Fresh Oil Ministry, whom she met on the social media platform, Facebook.

Yvonne’s husband, Odion while narrating the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death said that she met Apostle Psalm on Facebook and after several months of chatting, the pastor invited her last week Thursday, to perform in Warri, Delta State.

He continued, that Apostle Psalm told her he had programme in Warri, Asaba and Benin City in which he wanted her to perform, and also claimed he had another one in South Africa where he would also want her to showcase her talent.

Omoarebokhae said his wife left for Warri on Thursday to perform at the program, and called him at about 10am on Friday that she would be home soon, but he heard nothing from her again until the police called him at about 9:30p.m on Friday, with her phone, inviting him to the Airport Road police station, Benin.

He said, “At about 9:30pm, the police used my wife’s phone to call and invited me to report at the Airport Road police station.

“I waited for more than two hours at the police station until the police asked me to go home but I insisted on knowing the whereabouts of my wife.

“The DPO later told me that my wife was picked at a hotel in the GRA and rushed to the Benin Central hospital where she was confirmed dead.

“I am yet to see the corpse of my wife to know what happened and who was responsible for her death. We have a three-year-old-baby at home,” the bereaved husband explained.

Pastor Psalm has reportedly been picked by the police in the ongoing investigation.

Edo State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday said the matter was under investigation.

He also said a post mortem would be carried out to ascertain the cause of death, adding that the case has been transferred to the State Department Criminal Investigation.

According to him, the “man (pastor) is married and the woman (deceased) is married.

“Not until a post mortem is conducted, we cannot conclude what happened. I have asked the matter to be transferred to the SDCI.”
