FIFA President Infantino to speak to 'racially-abused' Muntari

The president of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, has said he will speak to Ghanaian footballer, Sulley Muntari, following his claims he was racially abused during a recent game.

Muntari was sent off during his side’s (Pescara) Serie A clash with Cagliari on 30 April after leaving the field in protest, complaining of being abused by spectators.

The 32-year old has also expressed that Fifa and Uefa are “not taking racism seriously”.

Infantino has however vowed to fight the “idiots” who perpetrate racism.

Talking to reporters in Bahrain ahead of Fifa’s annual congress, Infantino pledged “full solidarity” with Muntari, who has had his one-match ban for the red card overturned by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).

“Of course I will speak to Tavecchio (Italian FA), I will speak to Muntari as well… we will work together,” Infantino said.

Asked what could be done about the issue, Infantino said: “Fight. Continue to fight. It’s good to bring these things out when they happen. We have to work. We have to work on the people.”

“Unfortunately idiots, there are always idiots everywhere but we have to fight them.”
