After forming minority govt, May's two top aides resign

A day after UK Prime Minister Theresa May formed a minority government after an election gamble backfired, her two top aides have reportedly left her administration after they both threw in the towel.

Reports say the pair Nick Timothy and Fiona Hill, who are said to be May’s closest advisers, resigned in the wake of the Conservatives’ failure to win the general election.

According to BBC’s assistant political editor Norman Smith, the pair’s departure bought the PM some “breathing space” following 24 hours of recriminations after the Conservatives lost their overall majority.

Reports say May had been warned that she could face a leadership challenge on Monday unless she sacked the pair, the BBC understands.
