GADAFFI COMMENT: Stop your insults and respond to questions, PDP tells Presidency

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lambasted the presidency for choosing to insult Nigerians rather than provide explanations to President Muhammadu Buhari’s claim that herdsmen in the country were trained by the late Libyan leader, Muammah Gadaffi.

Buhari had said in London, while explaining to the Archbishop of Canterbury, the reason his government had not been able to end herdsmen killings of Nigerians, that the issue of herders/famers clashes predated his government, adding that the situation only became worse this period following the influx of herdsmen trained by Gadaffi into Nigeria.

The comment elicited different reactions from Nigerians, with many condemning it.

But Buhari’s spokesman, Mr. Femi Adesina, reacting to floods of attacks that were poured on Buhari over that comment, criticised the attackers, wondering how they would be busy paying attention to the problem rather than the solution, which he said Buhari proffered in his statement.

However the PDP, in statement by its national publicity secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja on Saturday, berated the Presidency for attacking Nigerians on the matter.

“Rather than offering explanations, the Buhari Presidency, in the All Progressives Congress usual arrogance and disdain, opted to insult Nigerians, including federal legislators as well as the institution of the National Assembly.

“But Nigerians are still demanding answers. If the Buhari administration knew, in the course of the last three years, that the nation has been invaded by forces from outside or even deserters from Libya, why has it continued to admonish Nigerians to learn to live with their neighbours?

“If, in the course of investigations, it discovered that the insurgents were from outside Nigeria, why is the government reportedly paying ransoms to them and even considering amnesty options?

“Is it part of governance to pay ransom to invaders? These are the questions that Nigerians expect the Buhari Presidency to answer,” PDP statement read in part.
