Gambia's electoral commission chairman on the run over threats

The electoral commission chairman in Gambia, Alieu Momar Njai is now on the run after he fled the country following threats on his life.

According to a family member and a colleague, the electoral chair received death threats after declaring President Yahya Jammeh the loser of a December 1 election, and it is not clear where he may have fled to.

President Yahya Jammeh seems to be tightening the noose on those suspected to not to be in support of his decision not to step down after losing to opposition leader Adama Barrow.

Yesterday, two private radio station in the capital of Banjul were ordered shut by security forces sent by Jammeh and it was not immediately clear why the two stations were targeted.
