Ijaws besiege NDDC head office, protest plans to extend tenure of board
Members of the Ijaw Youth Congress (AYC) members in Friday besieged the head office of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State in protest of what they alleged were plots to extend the tenure of the board
The allegation that the Federal Government plans to extend the tenure of the current board of the commission was said to have vexed the youths who stormed the commission’s head office with placards bearing different inscriptions as “Ijaw Nation Rejects NDDC tenure extension,” “End the Corruption in NDDC now”, “We demand adherence to the existing NDDC rotation policy.”
The group president, Pereotubo Oweilaemi, who spoke during the protest called the Federal Government not to allow attempts by the current management of NDDC to secure the extension of their stay in office.

According to him, the move remains against the policy of rotation as contained in the act that established the NDDC.
He therefore warned that such move as extending the tenure of the board of the NDDC could lead to another round of crisis in the oil region of Niger Delta.
