INEC disowns committee on underage voters

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the weekend said its committee on underage voters in Kano State might have been quoted out of context.

The committee, headed by a National Commissioner, Mohammed Nance, was last Friday quoted to have said that his committee was unable to establish any case of underage voter in the state.

“From all what we have seen and discussed with you media men, none of you has seen any underage voter in the line or voting,” Nance was quoted to have said on Friday. But the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, said in an interview with New Telegraph that the committee’s statement might have been taken out of context.

“The committee was given two weeks to submit its report and it seems out of place for them to make such statement after only three days. I think they are quoted out of context,” he said.
