Jibril's Constituency joins fight, sues Dogara, House over suspension.

Kiru/Bebeji constituency of Kano state which the former Chairman House committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibril represents, has dragged speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara to court over the suspension of their legislator.

Jibril, who blew the whistle on budget padding in the lower legislative chamber was suspended for 180 legislative days for breaching his colleagues’ privileges.

Bashir Muqaddam, counsel to Jibril’s constituent who spoke in Kano explained that Jibril has a legal right to expose issues that can dent the image of the country.

He affirmed that Jibril’s suspension lies on the fact that he exposed the alleged “budget fraud” in the house and that the plaintiffs want to ascertain the rationale behind Jibril’s suspension.

“The plaintiffs want a court interpretation on whether the House of representatives has power to suspend its member for 180 days. Constitutionally, the number of days prescribed to the lower chamber regarding suspension is only 14 days”, Muqaddam asserted.

December 20th , 2016 has been scheduled by the court for hearing of the matter.

Jibril who claimed his life is in danger has been on exile in London.

The lawmaker had accused Dogara and some principal officers of the House of allegedly padding the 2016 budget. He also wrote petitions to a number of anti corruption agencies including the EFCC son the matter.
