Kenya deports opposition member who played key role in Odinga’s mock inauguration

Authorities in Kenya have deported opposition member Miguna Miguna for playing a key role in the mock inauguration of Raila Odinga last week.

The opposition member who is a lawyer by profession charged with treason for playing a major role in Odinga’s controversial declaration confirmed he had been deported as he accused the government of breaking the law as it sought to quash the opposition.

“The illegitimate, despotic regime … forcefully placed me on a late night KLM flight from Nairobi to Amsterdam in flagrant violation of my constitutional rights, five court orders and common decency,” lawyer Miguna Miguna said in a statement.

Before he was deported, the lawyer who stood beside Odinga at last Tuesday’s symbolic “swearing in” was arrested and detained following a dawn raid on his Nairobi home by security operatives loyal to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The arrest of Miguna which was affected after police used explosives to blast open his door before leading him away for interrogation.
