Korea Tourney: Siasia invites Awoniyi, 5 other pros

U-23 Eagles coach, Samson Siasia, has invited six overseas-based professionals led by Liverpool loanee, Taiwo Awoniyi to beef up his squad for the invitational tournament in South Korea later this month, which serves as part of preparations for the Rio Olympics in August.

Hosts South Korea, Denmark and Honduras who have all qualified for the Men’s Football Tournament of Rio 2016 will be participating at the tournament.

The other pros confirmed are Imoh Ezekiel, Sodiq Popoola (Belgium), Azubuike Okechukwu (Turkey), Ajayi Junior (Tunisia) and Usman Mohammed (Portugal).

The bulk of the squad for the tournament will be players who are based in Nigeria and have been in training camp in Abuja since last month.

Meanwhile, latest reports in Tunisia revealed that CS Sfaxien may not release striker Junior Ajayi for the Korea 4-Nation Tournament.

It has been reported that the Nigeria U23 star will be called up for the tournament alongside five other foreign-based pros, but Tunisian intermediary, Mahmoud Ouaddeni, who handles the affairs of Ajayi and is close to CS Sfaxien, has dismissed the media reports.

With six rounds left before the end of the Tunisian Ligue 1, the Tunisian club insists that Ajayi would be released on June 12 for the Olympics.

In their last three fixtures in the topflight, CS Sfaxien, who sit second on the table, face Club Africain (May 31), Zarzis (June 7) and Kasserine (June 11).
