After long absence, Buhari presides over FEC meeting

After a long absence from the country, and missing out on a number of meetings, President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday presided over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

Among decisions reached at the meeting, was that the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo is to take over over the headship of the Federal Government negotiation team with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige made this known while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the FEC meeting.

ASUU had embarked on a nationwide strike since August 13 over the failure of the Government to implement an agreement it reached with the union in 2009.

The union also alleged that the Federal Government did not implement the Memorandum of Understanding the two sides signed in 2013.

On the delay in announcing the Chairman of the Minimum Wage Review Committee, Ngige blamed the private sector of being responsible.

According to him, the Federal Government was ready and will announce Chairman of the Committee when all the names of representatives of the private sector are received.
