Super Falcons vs Banyana Banyana

The Super Falcons of Nigeria will battle their South African counterparts in the final of the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) today (Saturday).

Both sides already met during the group stages, where the Banyana Banyana came out on top with a 1-0 victory.

But the Falcons had since recovered from that disappointing opener and have convincingly won all matches on their way to the final of the competition, except for the semifinal clash against Cameroon in which they won on penalties.

They now face the final test in their quest to defend the title they won in Cameroon in 2016, and are also a win away from making it nine (9) titles from eleven (11) editions of the CAF women championship.

“We are carrying on with the same plans as always,” Thomas Dennerby, Falcons coach said ahead of the game.

“We will have to improve our attacking play against the better teams and hopefully we will see an improved performance tomorrow (Saturday).

“All our players are fit to play except something happens before the final. It is my first time of coaching on the continent and nobody will be happier than me if we can win.”

On his part, Banyana coach Desiree Ellis said: “We are prepared, our aim was to get a world cup slot. we have gotten it, but there’s nothing stopping us from creating history twice at this tournament. Having got this far it would be naïve not to want to win but we have to implement our plans very well.”

The match will kick off at the Accra Sports Stadium by 5:00p.m Nigeria time.
