Mrs Jonathan not too big for us to handle –NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has stated that anyone, no matter how highly placed, who violates the provision of the Act setting it up will go unpunished.

It added that it only harasses those who violate the Act, no matter their status.

The agency made the assertion in a reply to claims by wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience that she and members of her family were being harassed by the EFCC, the police and the NDLEA.

Mrs Jonathan made the allegation in a letter written by her lawyer, Granville Abibo, and directed to the House of Representatives.

She had claimed in the pettition that the NDLEA along with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have being witch hunting and subjecting her to continuous harassment.

But in its reaction on Monday, the NDLEA said the claim by the former First Lady apart from being misleading and spurious was also an attempt to take issue with the agency, which ordinarily has no case against her.

The anti-narcotic agency in a statement released by its head, Public Affairs, Mitchell Ofoyeju, said, “Mrs. Jonathan’s allegation is spurious and misleading. NDLEA has no case against the former First Lady. It is rather surprising that the agency was mentioned in her petition when she is not being investigated.

“The NDLEA remains committed to the fight against drug cultivation, trafficking and abuse. It will not harass but those who violate the provisions of the Act, no matter their status, shall not go unpunished.”
