Nigerian govt gives foreigners deadline to get registered or be deported

The federal government of Nigerian eria has handed unregistered foreigners a deadline, to get their papers sorted out or face deportation to their countries of origin.

The deadline was issued through the Nigeria Immigration Service which said it will soon start to deport foreigners living in Nigeria without proper permit.

According to Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Muhammad Baba-Dede, who was addressing border communities at Maigatari local government in Jigawa State on Monday, the deportation of foreigners living illegally in the country will begin from the 12th of January, 2020.

He said; “Federal Government has given six months of grace to all foreigners living in Nigeria illegally to register before 12th of January 2020.

“We have already started registration, therefore, whoever refuses to register before the dateline will be forced out of the country”

The Comptroller General also said that the registration of foreigners was aimed at enhancing national security.
