Melaye narrates his ordeal after escape from ‘assassins’

The senator representing Kogi West senatorial district in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye, has denied rumours that he was planning to defect from his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Melaye, on his official twitter handle @dino-melaye, stated that APC would be defeated in Kogi State, adding that only “compound fools” and people with degree in stupidity would leave PDP for APC.

He wrote: “Only compound fools and people with degree in stupidity will leave PDP for APC. APC will be defeated in Kogi State.”

After recent setbacks in his political career in the PDP, it had been rumoured that the senator planned to decamp.

The Kogi State election tribunal in Lokoja, had recently sacked Melaye as senator and ordered a fresh election.

Melaye had also lost out of the PDP governorship primary held on September 3. He came fourth with 70 votes, while Musa Wada was declared winner with 748 votes.

Dino appealed against the result to the PDP Kogi and Bayelsa Governorship Appeal Panel headed by the PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus, but his appeal failed.

The party had also appointed Melaye director-general of PDP’s governorship campaign in the state. Dino, however, turned down the position.
