North kick against implementation of confab’s report

The report of the National Confab organized by the immediate past administration of President Goodluck Jonathan may just end up gathering hills of dust wherever it is as some Northern leaders have kicked against its implementation.

The confab was organized to resolve some topical issues in the country, which every now and then drags it to the precipice.

They included indigeneship, state creation, political lopsidedness, marginalization and resource control among others.

Majority of Nigerians hailed the move when the confab was inaugurated and also praised the final resolution of the confab, saying it would bring sanity to the polity as well as a sense of belonging to every segment of the country.

But on Tuesday, some Northern leaders kicked against the implementation of the confab’s report saying it did not address key issues affecting the region.

They instead advised President Muhammadu Buhari to convene a fresh conference that would address the challenges being faced in the region.

The Northern leaders, who are mostly former political office holders under the aegis of Northern Reawakening Forum (NRF) and headed by a former member of the House of Representatives, Mohammed Kumalia, said in view of the noticeable lapses in the report, it would be wrong for Buhari to implement it.

Jonathan had handed over the report to Buhari while leaving office in May and advised the incoming president to consider it for the betterment of the country.
