North Korea executes envoy who attended failed US summit

North Korea may have executed its nuclear envoy to the United States to purge officials who steered negotiations in a failed summit between leader Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump.

Emerging reports show that Kim Hyok Chol May have been executed in March at Mirim Airport in Pyongyang, along with four foreign ministry officials after they were charged with spying for the United States.

However, the White House has declined commenting on the North Korea purge, but says it continues to focus on denuclearization, adding that it is attempting to check on the reports of the envoy’s execution.

According to Reuters, which quoted a South Korean newspaper report on Driday, sources revealed that there were signs that Kim Hyok Chol and other officials were punished, but there was no evidence they were executed.

The source added that they may have been sent to a labor camp for re-education.
