Crowd trouble in the Nigeria Professional football league (NPFL) seems to have come to stay as the news of the menace makes the headline every other week.

Plateau United and Niger Tornadoes have had their shares of trouble at their venues in the current campaign and were fined N1m each.

The most recent incident is the one perpetrated by fans of Yobe Stars, who attacked their visitors Akwa United after a home defeat on Wednesday.

The Damaturu side were beaten 0-1 by Akwa, courtesy of a winner by Mfon Udoh.

According to tweets on the official Twitter handle of Akwa United, Yobe Stars fans hurled stones at the players after the game and also vandalized their bus.

“Yobe fans are furious and are throwing stones onto the pitch. Both sets of players and the officiating officials are in the middle of the pitch. Police are using tear gas to push the fans back,” the club tweeted.

“Our team bus has been vandalized by angry Yobe Stars fans after our 0-1 victory against their team in Damaturu.”

It is yet unknown what sanctions will be handed to Yobe Desert Stars by the League Management Company of the NPFL.
