Jailbreak

Emanating reports indicate that there was a jailbreak at the Kuje Prison in Abuja on Friday night.

There is still conflicting reports as to whether or not if any of the inmates, including Charles Okah escaped.

Charles is brother to Henry Okah, leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta. The last time he was in court, he armored to jump out the window but was held back by officials.

Sources within the prison said Okah and a yet to be ascertained number of inmates made good their escape by scaling the prison walls, but though the Nigerian Prisons Service on Saturday confirmed that there was a prison break, it insisted that Okah is still in custody.

According to the spokesperson for the Nigerian Prisons Service, Francis Enobore, it was not true that the alleged mastermind of the 2010 Independence Day bombings, escaped from prison.

The prison spokesman said, “He is there (Kuje prison) hale and hearty. The comptroller of prisons in charge of the FCT was there less than 30 minutes ago and he saw him there. I spoke to the controller.”

He nonetheless, confirmed that “Yes there was an incident yesterday, but Henry Okah was not involved. The Comptroller of prisons has ordered an investigation and that is going on. We want to know if anybody escaped and if yes, what are their identities.”
