Okocha tips Ghana for AFCON 2017 title

Super Eagles legend Austin ‘Jayjay’ Okocha has declared his support for the Black Stars of Ghana in the 2017 African Cup of Nations which holds in Gabon from January 14.

The former play maker implored Ghana, who last lifted the continental ‘Nations Cup’ in Libya, 1982, to make their nation proud by ending the trophy drought come next year.

”I have declared my support for the Black Stars since the Super Eagles will be absent in next year’s tournament, I will entreat the Black Stars to make all Ghanaians proud in next year’s tournament considering the long wait and they should focus on tournament despite their poor start to the 2018 World Cup campaign,” Okocha said.

The Black Stars, who have fallen into group D, with Mali, Egypt and Uganda, have however come close to winning the African title on three occasions – 1992, 2010 and 2015 – where they ended up as runners-up.

And with the Super Eagles failing to qualify for the tournament, most fans of the round leather game will likely root for the neighbouring nation to succeed in Gabon.
