Men of the Ondo State Police Command are currently on the hunt for a group of gunmen who kidnapped two victims Olugbade Ibikunle and Rafiu Isiaka who were both abducted while travelling on Akunu Road in the state.

According to reports, the pair were kidnapped some metres away from a police post and eyewitnesses say they were engaged in a gun battle with policemen attached to the post but the assailants escaped with the victims.

Folusho Adeyomoye, the younger sister of one of the victims, Ibikunle, who revealed that the kidnappers had requested the sum of N10 million as ransom said her brother and their cousin were travelling to Abuja from Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, when the assailants accosted them.

“My brother and cousin live in Ado Ekiti. They were travelling to Abuja from Ado Ekiti on Monday with a lady who is a family friend. They were going to see someone who promised to get them a job.

“According to the lady; when they got to Akunu Road, two kidnappers suddenly emerged from a bush and started shooting. They were forced to park. The road is bad and motorists usually slow down. So, the kidnappers took advantage of the bad road.

“The kidnappers released the lady and took away my brother and cousin. The lady said policemen at a police post near the scene of the kidnap engaged them in a shootput, but they (the policemen) did not chase them.”

Femi Joseph, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the kidnap of the two men stated that efforts are underway to rescue the kidnapped victims from the grip of their captors.

Joseph said; “We are still investigating and we have made some progress. But we don’t want to disclose anything for now.”
