The WBC heavyweight title fight between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury ended in a split decision draw following a stunning showdown in Los Angeles.

Briton Fury was dropped twice during the contest, but outclassed Wilder in every other department, hence the split decision draw was read out to boos in the arena, with one judge scoring it a 113-113 draw.

The draw means, American Wilder retains his WBC heavyweight title, but not without controversies as both fighters believed they deserved to have won.

Fury said: “We’re on away soil. I got knocked down but I still believe I won the fight. I’m showing total professionalism.

“The Gypsy King has returned. I’m a professional athlete who loves to fight. He is a fearsome fighter. The world knows the truth.”

Wilder said his two knockdowns meant he “definitely won the fight. I don’t know if [a rematch] will be my next fight but would love it to be. We need to do it again.”

Nevertheless, for viewers, the fight was one of the most thrilling heavyweight contests for years.
