Police arrest 3 suspected car snatchers terrorising Anambra, Delta with 150 handsets

RIVERS: Nine arrested in shooting to death of 2 mobile policemen

The Police on Thursday said it had arrested three suspected car snatchers that had been terrorising Anambra and Delta states.

It said in a statement by its spokesman in the Anambra State, Haruna Mohammed, that the three suspects, who often indulge in snatching vehicles in the state and other crimes, were caught with over 150 handsets in their possession.

The arrest of the suspects, police said, followed a credible intelligence report. It added that Puff Adder operatives in conjunction with police detectives attached to Aguata Division of the command did the arrest.

It gave the names of the suspects as Anyingor Arinze of Otueke, Asaba Delta State; Chinedu Nweke of Mbekwe Estate, Ogidi and Ebuka Christian Eziamaka of Ire village, Obosi, both of Idemili North LGA of Anambra State.

Police further listed seven vehicles, including one Toyota Corolla 2004 and Lexus 300 car, as part of the things recovered from the alleged criminals in Aguata.

“Exhibits recovered in their possession include one Gionee handset belonging to one of the victims whose vehicle was snatched.

“Other exhibits recovered are 12 Itel phones of different models, 26 Infinix phones of different models, 32 Tecno phones of different models, 16 Samsung phones of different models, three Gionee phones of different models and 60 other smaller phones of different make and models all reasonably suspected to have been snatched from different victims.

“Command enjoins the public whose handsets were either snatched or stolen through similar modus to report at the Special Anti-robbery Squad Awkuzu with proof of ownership in order to claim their handsets and also give further evidence to aid investigation of the suspects,” the statement read.
