Police arrest 47 suspected kidnappers, armed robbers in Nasarawa

At least 47 persons have been arrested in connection with kidnapping and armed robbery in different parts of Nasarawa in the last three weeks, the state police commissioner said on Wednesday.

Bola Longe, who paraded the suspects at the state police command headquarters in Lafia, said that 38 of them were arrested for kidnapping, while nine were picked up by the police for armed robbery.

He attributed the success in the fight against crime in the state to the tireless efforts of the personnel of “Operation Puff Adder,” an initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

Longe said the suspects included two women believed to be suppliers of arms to the criminals, while the other was their cook.

According to the police commissioner, six firearms and 24 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the suspects.

Other items recovered from the suspects were three motorcycles, N53,700 cash, a laptop, mobile phones, and assorted charms.

Longe alerted members of the public on the new tactics of the criminals which included threats and intimidation through telephone and text messages.

“The criminals order their victims to pay huge sums of money or be arrested and killed. The command appeals to members of the public not to succumb to such threats.

“Such threats should be reported to us for quick action,” he said.
