Rescuers recover 2 bodies from burning oil tanker off China's coast

One week after it collided with a cargo ship off China’s coast and later burst into flames, rescue officials have recovered two bodies identified as crewmen from the burning oil tanker before they were forced to leave the vessel due to heavy smoke.

Reports say the bodies of only three of the 32 crewmen – 30 Iranians and two Bangladeshis – have so far been found. A team of Iranian commandos are joining the operation.

Rescuers were also able to recovered the “black box” recording unit of the tanker which was sailing from Iran to South Korea before it collided with the cargo ship last Saturday evening.

There are also fears being expressed by Chinese officials that the tanker which had been sailing to Daesan, South Korea from Kharg Island, Iran, before before the incident is in danger of exploding and sinking.

The oil tanker named Sanchi has also caused oil leaks off China’s east coast and there are growing fears of a possible explosion and environmental hazard.
