Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Ahoada East Local Government Area, Chief Cassidy Ikegbudu was on Saturday abducted by gunmen, after a gun battle with his security details, at Ikegbudu village, Yiboko.
After over powering his security men, they reportedly dragged him to a nearby river and made their escape in a speed boat.
An APC House of Assembly candidate for Ahoada East Constituency 1, Mr Eric Apia, told NAN that Ahoada East was supposed to have a re-run for the House of Assembly and that the shooting began Friday night.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ahmad Muhammad said the police had received report of the abduction of the council chairman and “the command is aware of the incident involving the caretaker committee chairman.”
According to him, “Action has been put in place to rescue him safely’’.
