Again, Omo-Agege floors Senate in court

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, on Tuesday, failed to attend Senate’s plenary, despite series of boasts that he will storm the chamber.

At about 10.50am, the Senate resumed for the day. At this time, Omo-Agege was not anywhere around the chamber. Five minutes after, the Senate went into a closed door, which lasted for 11 minutes.

When it reconvened, Omo-Agege was still absent. As at when the Senate adjourned at about 1.10pm, Omo-Agege was not in the chamber.

It was gathered that the Delta central senator plans to be around tomorrow, Wednesday, when activities of the Senate will be live on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

The embattled senator was suspended by the Senate in April. Less than a week after his suspension, some thugs invaded the Red Chamber, allegedly in connivance with the lawmaker.

Two weeks after the invasion, a Federal High Court, ruled that his suspension was illegal and therefore declared it null and void. Following the annulment, Omo-Agege boasted that he will resume and also insisted that the leadership of the Senate could not stop him.

Late Monday night, the Senate released a statement, clearing the way for Omo-Agege to resume. It said since it is yet to secure a stay of execution order, it could not stop the lawmaker from resuming.

The statement signed by the spokesman of the Senate, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, said the Senate leadership had been briefed by its lawyers. He said an appeal has been filed, but that it was yet to secure any order to stop Omo-Agege from resuming.
