South Africans call for Zuma’s sack

Zuma to face corruption charges

As the saying goes, uneasy is the head that wears the crown. That scenario aptly captures the present predicament facing President Jacob Zuma following mass protests against him in South Africa.

Reports say the latest round of unrest which has seen thousands protest against Zuma is as a result of his sacking two finance ministers last week, further damaging confidence in the economy.

There are also claims of widespread corruption, recent student protests and a succession battle in the governing African National Congress (ANC).

The marchers are using the hasthag #ZumaMustFall on social media. The hashtag is a modification of #FeesMustFall which was used to organise protests against a rise in university fees.

Before that, #RhodesMustFall was used to demand a statue of British colonialist Cecil Rhodes be removed from the University of Cape Town’s campus.
