Tunisia may have crashed out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup but they put up a fine performance to earn a 2-1 win over Panama in their final group game on Thursday night.

Having lost their two games, the Eagles confirmed their exit from the tournament with debutants Panama also in similar position.

Both nations locked horns at the Saransk Stadium in a highly-contested encounter, but the Africans came out on top as they finished third in the group.

Tunisia fell a goal behind on 33 minutes when Jose Luis Rodriguez’s effort deflected in off Yassine Meriah.

Fakhreddine Ben Youssef equalised when he tapped home Khazri’s low ball early in the second half, and a 66th-minute strike from Sunderland’s Wahbi Khazri sealed the victory for the North african side.

The other group G game between England and Belgium ended 1-0 in favour of the Red Devils. A 51st-minute goal by Adnan Januzaj ensured they sealed the top spot.

Belgium finished as winners of the group with 9 points, followed by England with 6 points, as Tunisia and Panama exit the competition.

In the round of 16, Belgium will take on runners-up up of Group H – Japan, while England will battle Group H winners – Colombia.
