An ardent Ibadan based Twitter user @Iam_Czar has raised an alarm over the deteriorating health of Michael Taiwo Akinwunmi, the forgotten hero who designed Nigeria’s flag.

The Twitter user, who was driving along Iwo Road in Ibadan this morning, had an encounter with Pa Akinwunmi and the shocked young man, who couldn’t hold back his disappointment and shock tweeted thus: “Can you believe this man designed our national flag? He almost fell beside my car this morning at Iwo Road”.

@Iam_Czar’s post on Twitter, which was also accompanied by a picture of Pa Akinwunmi as he was walking along Iwo Road, elicited comments from other users of the social media platform with some calling for him to be paid monthly salary by President Muhammadu Buhari while others decried the way Nigeria’s heroes and heroines are being treated.

Pa Akinwunmi is said to be living in one of the poorest areas in Ibadan and the house of the 79-year-old, which can only be reached by foot, is said to be painted in the colours of the Nigerian flag.

Reports say his only companion is his 28-year-old son, as Pa Akinwunmi separated from his wife about two decades ago when his health condition began to worsen.

Read below the reactions of Twitter users after the comment and picture of @Iam_Czar was posted on the social media platform.
