Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team Falconets came from a goal down to beat Spain 2-1 in their last Group B game on Sunday, but the win couldn’t give them a slot in the next stage at the ongoing FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup.

Spain qualified along with Japan who top the group after thrashing Canada 5-0 while the Falconets finished third.

As it can be recalled, the last time the Falconets failed to make it out of the group stage was at the maiden edition of the championship in Canada 2002.

Alba Redondo put Spain ahead in the 7th minute. In the 11th minute the Falconets drew level through Ihuoma Onyebuchi from a corner. And in the 72nd minute skipper Chiwendu Ihezuo scored the Falconets second
goal to give them their second win of the tournament.
