What I’ll discuss with Obama – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that his forthcoming meeting with the United States President, Barack Obama, will further strengthen bilateral ties between Nigeria and the US.

Buhari, who disclosed this Wednesday at a meeting with the US Deputy Secretary of State, Mr. Anthony J. Blinken in Abuja, also said his talks with President Obama will give a much needed impetus to his administration’s efforts to overcome the challenge of terrorism.

The President told Mr. Blinken that Nigeria also looks forward to greater support from the US for the multinational Joint Task Force being mobilized against Boko Haram.

President Buhari said that Nigeria and other Gulf of Guinea nations will also welcome more cooperation from the United States to enhance maritime security in the Gulf and curb crude oil theft.

Blinken, who commiserated with President Buhari and Nigerians over the recent loss of lives in terrorist attacks, assured of the readiness of the US government to discuss all matters put forward by the Nigerian government during Buhari’s visit to Washington DC.

The Nigerian President will be guest to his US counterpart on July 20. The White House had in a statement on the visit said: “President Obama will host Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari at the White House on July 20; The visit will mark our support for the Nigerian people following their historic democratic elections and peaceful transfer of power.”
