Whistle blowers help police rescue 73-yr-old woman after 5 days in kidnappers' den

Relief has come the way of a 73-year-old woman identified only as Eunice after she was freed from the den of kidnappers by men of the Imo State Police Command.

Whistle blowers played a prominent role in the rescue of the victim, as efforts were activated to secure the release of the victim immediately her case was reported, according to the State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike who also revealed that one of the alleged kidnappers had been arrested.

The CP said; “The old woman was rescued at about 10.50 this morning at an uncompleted building at Mbieri in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State. She was kept there for five nights without food and water. We were able to nab one of the kidnappers, while three of his accomplices fled.”

The Police Commissioner also used the opportunity to warn kidnappers that the act of kidnapping and other crimes would not be condoned in the state while also revealing that the woman was rescued as a result of a well thought-out whistle-blowing policy.

“This is another result of our well thought-out whistle-blowing policy. The breakthrough was as a result of local intelligence. Immediately the information came, I dispatched three tactical units of the command, who rescued this mummy. We will continue to sensitise our people that crimes do not pay,” Ezike said.

The CP also informed that when the den was raided, one revolver pistol and 30 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the arrested suspect.

“There is no crime-free society and there is no upsurge in criminal activities in the state. But by projection, we expect that as we have entered the second half of the year, we will witness increased commercial activities and more deviant behaviours,” the CP added.

Recounting her ordeal, the septuagenarian said four men came to her house located at Ogbor village in Ekwe-Dim, Isiala Mbano Local Government of the state to kidnap her.

“The four young men took me to an uncompleted building and told me that my children are very rich. They later called my husband, Sir Lambert Nwokoro, and asked him to bring N1.1m or he would not see me again,” Eunice said.

Continuing, she added that; “He pleaded with them that he could only afford N1m but they demanded that the sum must be complete.”

She further revealed that it was moments after her husband was given an ultimatum to raise the ransom that the police swooped in and rescued her from the hands of her kidnappers.

But I didn’t really see the efficiency of whistle blower policy in this story because it was not the whistle blower that told the police where the woman was hidden. Well thank God that the old woman is released

What’s the difference between #1.1m and #1m that they are negotiating? These ones are “I never chop kidnappers ” I trust Evans, #1.1m is for Recharge cards

Kidnappers are very wicked, abducting a 73-year-old woman with neither food nor water for five days, their plan is to kill her with hunger and nothing more

How will they give her food? They requested for a ridiculous amount of N1.1m to tell you the kidnappers are also hungry
