World must stand up against US ‘bullying’, Iran's foreign minister says

The world must stand up against the bullying behaviour of the United States of America, so says Iran’s Foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

The comments were made by Zaif as he attempts to save a nuclear deal after Washington’s withdrawal last month.

In a letter to his US counterpart, Zaif asked “the remaining signatories and other trade partners” to “make up for Iran’s losses” caused by the US exit, if they sought to save the historic accord.

The nuclear deal was the result of “meticulous, sensitive and balanced multilateral talks”, Zarif was quoted as saying in the letter, parts of which were published by the state news agency IRNA on Sunday.

Last month, Iran rejected a series of new requirements laid out by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for a new nuclear treaty with the Asian country.

Speaking in Tehran, the Iranian capital, President Hassan Rouhani rejected US demands dismissing Pompeo’s conditions as ‘sham’ diplomacy.

Rouhani in an interview with Iran’s ILNA news agency said the era of the US making decisions for the rest of the world was “over”.
